Achtung!  Achtung!  In my never-ending quests to
provide you with more pipes at a great price and me with
more revenue,  I am going to start a new element here,
lifted from the Chinese restaurant menus of my youth
where you could select from Column A, and Column B.
Here's the deal: for $100, including postage in the
continental U.S., you can select 4 pipes, two listed as
Cagegory A, two from Category B, or more specifically,
no more than two from A and as many as 4 from B.  Is that
clear?  In short, I will be valuing the A pipes as being
worth a bit more than the B pipes.  You are welcome to
disagree and vote with your pocketbooks.  You are also
quite welcome to choose any single pipe you like, at the
stated single pipe price, which, not incidentally, should
still be an excellent value.
Not being a master of organization, logistics or anything
else that requires planning and thought, I may have to
revise, or eventually abandon this attempt altogether,
but I hope not.  My "Assorted 4 Pipes" offer is going
fairly well, and this should do the same, but then again,
I'm not buying, I'm selling.  If you have thoughts on what
you see, I am all eyes.  I expect this to be fun for both of
us.  If a pipe doesn't indicate it's in Category A or B, it's
not part of this deal.  Not all pipes in this program will be
placed near one another, but they should all be on the
Specials page.  It will take a little time to build up an
appropriate inventory of these pipes, so please be a bit
patient, and then, when your patience wears thin, don't
hesitate to lambast me for my sloth.  Thank you for your
attention.
P.S. No 'holds,' substitutions or changes etc. on this
page, for my mental health.  Thanks.

Pipe
Categories:
Kaywoodie "500"  #6270067TM Category B
This pipe sports a Pat. #, although for exactly what I do not
know.  It does not appear to have anything other than the
standard Kaywoodie metal stinger, with 3 holes.  The pipe is
unsmoked and there is even a little of the bruyere-colored stain
on the white cloverleaf logo on the stem.
5.35" long, bowl 1.55" tall.  Weight: 1 oz., 29 grams. Price: $35.
Meerschaum #6270241IW Category B
Is it possible that this is made from pressed meerschaum rather
than block?  I ask because it is a bit heavier than I would expect
a block meerschaum to be.  Yet, I see no sign in the stone that
it is not of one piece.  Is it possible to make a pressed pipe that
shows no seams or piecing together?  It's an open enough
draw and the carving is no worse than mediocre.  It does sit up.
5.4" long, bowl 2.65" tall.  Weight: 2 5/8 oz., 74 grams. $35
Vauen designed by Barontini #1225279 Category B (SOLD)
Cool...you get two bad pipe makers collaborating and they want
to brag about it.  Kind of like seeing a a Yugo with a plate on it
saying "body designed by Trabant."  This pipe, which is in
excellent condition (and that could be a tip off as to how great a
smoke it provided) can also take a 9mm filter, as Vauen is a
German company.  To be fair, I have seen some recent Vauen
pipes and they actually look pretty good.  The Trabant could
never say that.
5.8" long, bowl 2" tall.  Weight: 2 7/8 oz., 81 grams. Price: $35.
Savinelli Prince of Wales #1123184GN Category B (SOLD)
Because of the length of the stem, I'd call this more of a
Churchwarden than a Prince of Wales, although the shape of
the bowl is certainly that of a Prince.  In any case, the condition
of the pipe is like new.  The tenon can take the Savinelli balsa
filter, although I wouldn't bother.  The draw could be better.
7.9" long, bowl 1.4" tall.  Weight: 1 3/8 oz., 38 grams. $35.
(B.C.) Commandeur Geante Extra #1123011  (SOLD)
Rather large...a Group 6 in size, I would guess, no smaller.
The condition is excellent and the cross grain and Bird's Eye is
good.  I looked carefully and did not see any fills.  Open draw.
6.2" long, bowl 2.2" tall.  Weight: 2 oz., 58 grams. Price: $45.
Sasieni Two Dot  #1123140SW Category B (SOLD 1/9/11)
Right up front, let me tell you that there is a dark spot on the
bottom of the bowl...dead center.  I think that the pipe was
smoked hot there, although testing with a pipe tool reveals no
burn out.  Should you buy this, and it burns out, I'll certainly
provide a full refund.  My suggestion, however, would be to
build up a little firewall...maybe a paste of a dram of water
mixed with cigar ash to make a paste.  I've used that to great
effect on a real burnout on the side of a bowl.  There is also a
touch of a burn on the outer rim of the bowl, but that means
nothing more than one of the prior owners was a bit klutzy with
his match or lighter.  The rest of the pipe, including stem, are in
excellent condition and the draw open.  Cross grain is good, too
6.4" long, bowl 1 5/8" tall.  1 3/8 oz., 38 grams. Price: $35.
Ben Wade #1225193 Category A
Other than the brand name and the "London Made" and a
shape #, the nomenclature is non-existent.  But I strongly
suspect that it is a Charatan factory produce and it is certainly
well executed. The condition is excellent.  The stem is acrylic, a
bit unusual for an English pipe.  The draw is open.
6" long, bowl 1.65 tall.  Weight: 1 3/8 oz., 38 grams. $45.
4 Assorted Pipes for $60 #1123106JTL (SOLD 12/28/11)
From the right, a Comoy's Billiard that is as yet unsmoked.  To
its left is a Bari Viking in exc. cond, but with a loose stem that
has a cuff on the tenon, so it will be hard to tighten.  It is
smokable and I'm sure it'll tighten when heated during a smoke.
To the left again is a near-new Comoy's Raffaello, styled by
Lorenzo.  Finally, draped over the two pipes is a Comoy's
Designer in excellent condition.
4 Assorted Pipes for $45 #1123103 (SOLD 12/27/11)
From the top: A John Peel in exc. cond.  Peel is a Barling 2nd,
and indeed, the shank is stamped BB&S for B. Barling & Sons.
Next down is a Barling Fossil TVF, shape # 5574.  The stem, if
original, has had the logo buffed off.  The pipe itself is in good
condition.  Below that is a smallish Royalite, a Danish pipe in
exc. cond.  I don't know who made this brand.  Final pipe on the
bottom was made for the Portland Pipe Co. by Barling (BB&S).
this pipe, too, is in very good condition.
Kaywoodie Super Grain #1123188 Category B
Sometimes the Kaywoodies with 4 hole stingers, as this is, have
good draws.  The draw on this otherwise appealing pipe has a
poor draw.  The condition is either near-new or new.  I'm not
sure.  The chamber diameter can nearly take my thumb and
the width of the chamber is nearly 1/2" thick.  The grain is
pretty good, too, such as the cross grain which runs the entire
length of the bottom of the pipe.
5" long, bowl 1.5" tall.  Weight: 2 oz., 56 grams. Price: $35.
North Dane Amber #1123026 Category A (SOLD 1/12/12)
A very well made, handsome pipe with  equally pleasing stem
work.  The condition is excellent and the draw open.  North
Dane was made by George Jensen.  As with W.O. Larsen, they
are no longer in business.  This pipe isn't a bad legacy, at all.
5.25" long, bowl 1.7" tall.  Weight: 1 3/4 oz., 43 grams. $45.
Ben Wade Burrsbury #1123039 Category B (SOLD 1/16/12)
This Ben Wade was made in London.  it's in excellent condition,
except for a touch of wear on the inner rim and the draw is
open.  If the grain were better it would receive kinder trreatment
from the placement I've given it.  That should have no impact
on how the pipe, this or any pipe, smokes.  About a Grp. 5 size.
6" long, bowl 1.85" tall.  Weight: 1 3/4 oz., 50 grams. $35.
GBD New Standard #1225252SW Category B (SOLD)
Here's a good reason to avoid selling your pipes through me.  In
this case, the seller did not provide me with specific guidance as
regards selling price.  Well, I'm not interested in curating pipes,
I'm interested in selling them.  So, what we have here is a clean,
eminently smokable GBD.  Yes, the stem is not original (although
it is a good stem and not a cheap molded replacement) and the
nomenclature is mostly worn off, but for smoking, this could be as
good as anything on the planet.  I wouldn't be stunned.  And how
much will this 'lottery ticket' of a pipe set you back?  Read on.
6" long, bowl 1.75" tall.  Weight: 1 1/8 oz., 33 grams. $35.
Comoy's Grand Slam #1225270SW Category A (SOLD)
Does somebody think they're pulling the wool over the eyes of
Ol' Uncle Marty?  B.S.  I know a topped bowl when I see one.
Hell, I could have done this job myself and probably matched
the stain better.  No matter, I'm about giving this pipe away.
The stem is not original and the nomenclature could be
improved upon, as in "did I just go blind or is there anything
here?"  But...you can see that it is a Grand Slam and has (or
mostly, had) a U.S. Pat. #.  In short, it's older than you. Grp. 3.
5.6" long, bowl 1.65" tall.  Weight: 1 oz., 27 grams. $45
Stanwell Brazilia #1028189UG Category A (SOLD)
The pipe is in excellent condition, with no marks on the stem
and only the slightest of dings on the bowl rim, if you can even
call them dings.  The draw is wide open, and best of all, the
pipe has enough age to be stamped with a Reg. #.  I wish I
could tell you if that ferrule is bone or a great acrylic look-alike,
but I just don't know.  When I knock it against my tooth, it does
feel a bit softer than bone would.  Anyhow, the stem is vulcanite.
5.5" long, bowl 1.95" tall.  Weight: 1.75 oz., 49 grams. $45.
